JACKSONVILLE,FL(AP) - Running back Mike Rozler ran for two touchdowns and the Jacksonville defense shut down quarterback Doug Flutie as the Bulls defeated the New Jersey Generals 30-20 Sunday in a United States Football League game.
A crowd of 60,100 --the largest of the year inthe USFL - watched the game In Jacksonville, matching Rozier, the 1983 Heisman Trophy winner, against Flutie, the 1984 Heisman winner, and New Jersey running back Herschel Walker, the 1982 Heisman winner.
Rozier, in his longest run of the year, broke several tackles on a 23-yard scamper that gave the Bulls their first touchdown with 1:51 left in the first quarter. Then, with 2:17 left in the game, scored on a 1-yard run around right end.
Walker ran for 169 yards on 29 carries. It was his fifth consecutive 100-yard game. Flutie finished with only nine completions in 17 attempts for 148 yards and one touchdown.
Jacksonville tight end Norris Brown broke open the game with 10:30 left in the game when he hauled in a kickoff and ran 82 yards down the right side for the Bulls' first-ever kickoff return for a touchdown. Brown's return gave Jacksonville a 23-20 lead.
Brian Franco kicked field goals of 23 and 38 yards in the second quarter and added a third-period kickoff 36 yards for the Bulls.
The victory gave Jacksonville a 6-5 record. New Jersey, which was tied for the Eastern Division lead coming into the game, dropped to7-4.
