COLLEGE PARK, Md (AP) - Chuck Fusina threw three touchdown passes to lead the Baltimore Stars to a 28-1O victory over the San Antonio Gunslingers at the University of Maryland's Byrd Stadium.
Fusina's performance came before 8,633 fans, the smallest total for a home game in the Stars' three-year history and nearly 6,000 smaller than the previous low this season.
Fusina, who had thrown only 11 touchdown passes in the Stars' first 13 games, hit Victor Harrison with a first-quarter, 21-yard pass for a 7-0 lead. In the second half, after San Antonio had pulled to within 14-1O, Fusana threw an 11-yard scoring pass to Tom Donovan and a 31-yard touchdown pass to James Cavers.
Running back Kelvin Bryant also scored for Baltimore on a one-yard run in the second quarter.
The defending USFL champion Stars are now 7-6-1, while San Antonio lost its seventh straight game and fell to 3-11.
San Antonio scored on a 44-yard pass from Rick Neuheisel to Frank Lockett on the last play of the first half and on a 44-yard, third-quarter field goal by Nike Mike-Mayer.
