TAMPA,FL(AP) - Gary Anderson scored his 18th, 19th and 20th touchdowns of the year Saturday night to set a United States Football League single season record and lead the Tampa Bay Bandits to a 42-24 victory over the Memphis Showboats.
The triumph was the ninth in 10 games for the playoff bound Bandits. Anderson's first touchdown, a 2 yard run with 37 seconds left in the half, boosted Tampa Bay into a 21-7 lead. The 6 foot, 180 pound speedster from Arkansas scored No. 2 with 32 seconds remaining in the third quarter running on fourth and one to hike the Bandits lead.
Memphis came right back with a four play, 74 yard drive leading to Mike Kelley's 18 yard scoring pass to Cormac Carney. The 7-9 Showboats, however couldn't contain Anderson, who finished with 101 yards rushing on 18 carries.
