TAMPA, Fla (AP) - John Reaves threw three touchdown passes and Willie Gillespie caught two of them Sunday as the Tampa Bay Bandits routed the New Jersey Generals 40-14 to clinch a berth in the United States Football League playoffs.

Reaves left the game late in the third period after completing 14 of 23 passes for 211 yards His favorite target was Gillespie, a wide receiver returning from two weeks of inactivity after injuring both ankles to catch first-half touchdown passes of 2 and 14 yards.

With the victory, the 11-4 Bandits nailed at least an at-large place in the playoffs. The Generals, also 11-4, garnered a spot Friday night when Memphis came up with a victory over New Orleans, 20-17.
