Chicago 13 at Memphis 23

1984 Week 2 - Sunday, March 4, 1984
Chicago Blitz(0-1)(-4) at Memphis Showboats(0-1)
Attendance: 10,152

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -Rookie quarterback Walter Lewis threw for three touchdowns in the rain and mud Sunday as the Memphis Showboats torpedoed United States Football League rival Chicago 23-13.

It was the Showboats' first USFL victory after a 17-9 season opener loss to Philadelphia. Chicago is now 0-2 following a 20-18 lows to Michigan last week.

Memphis' tough defense, headed by White, never allowed the Blitz to mount a serious offense until the game was out of reach in the fourth period.

It wasn't until Vince Evans connected with Marcus Anderson for a 38-yard touchdown pass with 10:08 left that the Blitz got beyond the Memphis 40.

The Showboats held the Blitz to only 33 yards rushing. Evans finished with 288 yards passing, but he got 181 of those yards in the final period when it was too late.
