CHICAGO (AP) - Sam Harrell rushed 20 times for a USFL record 200 yards and three touchdowns and quarterback Jim Kelly passed for three scores for Houston in the Gamblers 45-36 shootout win over the Blitz on Sunday afternoon.
Harrell, who had a 53-yard scoring dash, broke Herschel Walker's single-game rushing record of 194 yards and the game's 81 points also set a USFL record, surpassing the previous mark of 67. Kelly's scoring passes went 13 yards to Harrell, 61 yards to Ricky Sanders and 33 yards to Greg Moser.
Winless Chicago drew only 7,808 fans to its home opener in 18-degree weather.
