We are in the process of preserving USFL video. More than three-and-a-half decades have passed since the USFL last played football, and video of its games is in more danger every day of being lost or destroyed. Michigan 7 at Tampa Bay 19

1983 Week 2 - Saturday, March 12, 1983
Michigan Panthers(1-0) at Tampa Bay Bandits(1-0)(-2.5)
Attendance: 38,789

TAMPA (AP) - The Panthers were expecting a passing barrage from Tampa Bay's John Reaves. Instead, they ran into Greg Boone - or, more properly, Boone ran through them as the Bandits ran over Michigan 19-7.

"It was clear the passing game wasn't working," Boone, a rookie from Duke, said after gaining 157 yards and scoring a touchdown. "I was a little nervous at first...Last week I didn't carry much. I was afraid of making mistakes. I just knuckled down and ran the ball. After a little while I felt comfortable."

The teams traded second-period touchdowns, Reaves passing 6 yards to Eric Truvillion and Bobby Hebert throwing 3 yards to Mike Cobb. The game attracted 38,789 fans compared to last Sunday's 42,437 in Tampa Bay.
