Los Angeles 18 at Tampa Bay 13

1983 Week 7 - Monday, April 18, 1983
Attendance: 32,223, TV: ESPN

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Vince Abbott kicked three first-half field goals and Los Angeles used a second-half fumble recovery to set up John Barnett's 1-yard touchdown run Monday night as the Los Angeles Express held on for an 18-13 United States Football League victory over the Tampa Bay Bandits.

Abbott's field goals of 35, 36 and 24 yards staked the Express to a 9-6 halftime lead and Barnett's score gave Los Angeles a 16-6 advantage with 12:31 remaining to play.

Reserve quarterback Jimmy Jordan brought the Bandits back, however, and the 4-3 Express needed a roughing-the-punter penalty to help quarterback Mike Rae exhaust the clock.

Jordan replaced John Reaves late in the fourth quarter after the Bandits' starter had thrown four interceptions and fumbled to set up Barnett's touchdown.
