LOS ANGELES(AP) - Quarterback Chuck Fusina completed 21 of 37 passes for 214 yards and one touchdown Sunday, leading the Philadelphia Stars to a 17-3 United States Football League victory of the Los Angeles Express.
The win was the fifth in six games for the Stars, while the Express fell to 3-3 in losing its first home game of the season after three triumphs.
The game was played before a crowd of 18,671 at the Los Angeles Coliseum.
Rookie running back Kelvin Bryant, the USFL's leading rusher, gained 81 yards on 21 carries and scored Philadelphia's first touchdown on a 2-yard run with 6:52 remaining in the second quarter.
That gave the Stars a 10-3 lead. Los Angeles took a 3-0 lead on a 42-yard field goal by Vince Abbott, his longest of the season, with 1:12 left in the first quarter.
The Stars tied it 3-3 on a 46-yard field goal by David Trout with 10:34 to go in the second period.
Bryant's touchdown, which put the Stars ahead to stay, capped a 10-play, 68-yard drive after Jonathan Sutton intercepted a Mike Rae pass at the Philadelphia 32.
Fusina hit wide receiver Scott Fitzkee with a 19-yard scoring throw midway through the final period to complete the scoring. The touchdown climaxed a seven-play 43-yard march after a Los Angeles punt.
