DENVER(AP) - Memphis beat Denver 33-17 before the smallest crowd in the history of the Gold.

Denver, once among the strongest USFL franchises, attracted only 8,207 fans.

"When I was here they had good crowds, 30,000 or more," said Harry Sydney, who led the Gold in rushing the past two seasons but was traded to Memphis last December. "It felt odd playing before so few fans."

Sydney scored the Showboats' decisive TD on a 12-yard run midway in the fourth period, breaking a 17-17 tie.
