ORLANDO,FL(AP)-- Linebacker John Joyce scored two touchdowns, one a 78-yarder after a fumble recovery, as the New Jersey Generals registered a 24-14 preseason victory over the Orlando Renegades Friday night.
The game marked the United States Football League debut of Generals quarterback Doug Flutie. Flutie, a $7 million rookie quarterback, had a sloppy pro debut, completing only 7of 19 passes for 174 yards. His first two passes went for interceptions, both by linebacker Jeff Gabrielson.
Flutie's counterpart on the Renegades, Jerry Golsteyn, played well, hitting 23 passes of 35 attempts for 199 yards and two touchdowns.
