We are in the process of preserving USFL video. More than three-and-a-half decades have passed since the USFL last played football, and video of its games is in more danger every day of being lost or destroyed. EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ (Wire Services) - Tight end Sam Bowers snared eight passes for 139 yards and Thomas Lott, playing because Herschel Walker had blurred vision, ran for 110 yards and scored on a 3-yard burst to lead the New Jersey Generals to a 21-14 victory over the Arizona Wranglers.
Walker, who missed three offensive series in the first half and didn't play in the third quarter after he was poked in the right eye, finished with 33 yards on nine carries to boost his league-leading total to 1,738 yards.
Walker returned early in the fourth quarter to score his 18th touchdown of the season on a 1-yard leap as the Generals played their final home game before a Giants Stadium crowd of 30,612. The Generals averaged 33,822 for their nine home games.
New Jersey, winning two straight games for the first time this season, boosted its record to 6-11, while Arizona lost its ninth straight to fall to 4-13.
Lott, making his debut in the backfield, gave the Generals a 7-0 lead on his 3-yard run late in the first quarter. Lott had 18 carries as he became the only New Jersey player other than Walker to rush for more than 100 yards in a game.
