Baltimore built up a 28-0 lead on the USFL Eastern Conference Champion Birmingham Stallions to gain its third straight USFL Championship Game appearance. The previous two games were as the Philadelphia Stars. Big plays were the difference as the Stars crashed the title hopes of the Stallions. The Stars playoff record stood at 6-1 after the victory. Their only loss was in the 1983 Championship Game to the Michigan Panthers who merged with the Oakland Invaders, the same team that will be Baltimore opponent in the third USFL title game at Giants Stadium.
