Denver 3 at Arizona 24

1983 Week 8 - Saturday, April 23, 1983
Attendance: 21,557

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - The Arizona Wranglers have always thought running back Calvin Murray would become an explosive offensive threat in the United States Football league, but the big question was when and where it would happen.

Saturday night here, the ex-Ohio State standout broke loose for 125 yards rushing on 22 carries and turned a simple pass play into a 54-yard touchdown as Arizona beat the Denver Gold 24-3.

It was the first 100-yard game by any Wrangler running back this season.

"My last 100-yard game was in college. I can hardly remember it was so long ago," said Murray, who had gained 72, 70 and 77 yards the past three games. "I knew things would work out if I just stuck with it. I want to do whatever is needed to help this team win."

The victory earned the Wranglers a share of first place in the Pacific Division with Dever and the Los Angeles Express - all with identical 4-4 records.
