MEMPHIS(AP) - Running back Gary Anderson ran for two touchdowns and caught a pass for a third Friday night to give the Tampa Bay Bandits a 28-20 United States Football League victory over the Memphis Showboats.
Anderson, a 6-foot, 180 pounder from Arkansas, provided three of the Bandits' four touchdowns while accounting for 68 of his team's 82 yards rushing.
Quarterback John Reaves was 24-35 for 307 yards passing. The Bandits finished the night with 382 yards offense to Memphis' 291.
Tampa Bay, now 4-2, matched the Showboats touchdown-for-touchdown until the final period when the Bandits broke the cycle with a fourth-quarter drive that put them ahead 28-20.
Reaves threw two touchdown passes --a 5-yard toss to Anderson in the second quarter and a 7-yard pass to wide receiver Larry Brodsky in the third.
Memphis struck first when quarterback Walter Lewis connected with Derrick Crawford for 13 yards and a touchdown 13:20 deep into the first period. Reaves put together a 79-yard scoring drive on the Bandits next possession culminating in the pass to Anderson.
