Philadelphia 21 at Denver 19
1984 Week 16 - Friday, June 8, 1984
Philadelphia Stars(14-1)(-10) at Denver Gold(8-7)
DENVER(UPI)-Just because they have the Atlantic Division title all wrapped up, don't expect the Philadelphia Stars to ease up.
The Stars proved hungry as ever Friday night, getting a David Trout field goal with eight seconds left to score a 21-19 victory over the Gold at Denver.
The Gold, 8-8, needed the win more than Philadelphia, 15-1, since the Stars had the playoffs clinched before the game. Still, Philadelphia played as if its season was on the line in winning a league-record 13th straight.
"I'm not going to rest anybody, we want to win our last two games," Stars coach Jim Mora said. "We want to go into the playoffs rested, but more importantly, we want to be winning with a positive attitude."
Denver is one of seven teams battling for three remaining Western Conference playoff spots.
Kelvin Bryant rushed for 194 yards and two touchdowns to help the Stars. In his best rushing game as a pro, he scored on runs of 20 and 10 yards.
The Gold had gone ahead 19-18 on Harry Sydney's second 1-yard TD run with 1:57 left but a 2-point conversion run failed and Chuck Fusina completed eight passes to rally the Stars into position for Trout's game-winning kick.
