Los Angeles Express(7-8)(-1.5) at New Jersey Generals(4-11)
Attendance: 31,807, TV: ABC

EAST RUTHERFORD,NJ(UPI) - Herschel Walker and Dwight Sullivan ran for touchdowns, John Roveto kicked two field goals and the New Jersey defense caused six Los Angeles turnovers Friday night, leading the Generals to a 20-13 U.S, Football League victory over the Express.

The loss dampened the Express' playoff chances. Los Angeles fell to 7-9 and into a third-place tie with Denver in the Pacific Division. 1 1/2 games behind Oakland with two games left. Oakland plays at Philadelphia Monday night.

New Jersey snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 5-11. Walker, the USFL rushing leader, rushed for 85 yards on 26 carries and broke the pro football record for rushing yards by a rookie. He now has 1,705 yards, which snapped the rookie record of 1,674 set by George Rogers of the NFL's New Orleans Saints in 1981.

Sullivan, starting in place of the injured Maurice Carthon, rushed for a season-high 84 yards on 14 carries. He had just 99 on the season coming into the game. Sullivan's 3-yard TD run capped a 93yard Generals drive and put New Jersey ahead 7-0 with 5:04 left in the first quarter. The drive came after Mike Williams pulled down the first of four interceptions when he picked off a Tom Ramsey pass on the New Jersey 7. Sullivan gained 36 yards on five carries in the march.

LaRue Harrington's 1-yard plunge early in the second quarter lifted Los Angeles into a 7-7 tie. Harrington carried on six of the last seven plays for 28 yards in the 11-play, 76-yard drive.

Walker scored on an 11-yard run to finish a 78-yard, seven-play drive and give New Jersey a 14-7 lead with 11:14 left in the half. It was his 17th TD of the year.
