Arizona 13 at Oakland 31 (Fresno, CA)

1985 Preseason Week 3 - Sunday, February 17, 1985

Attendance: 10,204

FRESNO, CA (UPI) - The question of who will be the starting quarterback Oakland Invaders for was not answered as the USFL team rolled to a 31-13 pre-season win over the Arizona Outlaws.

The Michigan and Oakland teams of last season have merged this time around which means that proven starting quarterbacks Bobby Hebert and Fred Besana are vying for the signal-caller job.

Hebert completed eight of 11 passes for 121 yards and one touchdown Sunday and then gave way to Besana, who clicked on 6 of 8 passes for 105 yards.

Coach Charlie Sumner said both quarterbacks played well, but that the game would not be important in determining his starter. It was evident that he already had made up his mind before the kickoff. "I think his mind was made up before the game," Besana said, "I'm not sure who it is. Maybe if one of us had thrown five interceptions, it might have changed things."
